Ugh, I'm getting really sluggish about writing book reviews. I'm dying to tell people about the books I read (often so they don't have to subject themselves to the bad ones) but this is time-consuming. I'd much rather be doing the reading itself. For every five books I read, I manage to get a review up here; so, only one or two a month. That's not bad, I guess.
Anydangway, this is an amazing book. I immediately got my girlfriend to read it the day after I finished. We're going to see the movie soon but I don't how it will live up to this. Of course, with the author starring as one of the main characters, it has a good chance.
It follows the exploits of shy Mirabelle, as she must choose between the older, suave Ray and the younger, endearingly inept Jeremy. What's incredible is the verisimilitude of their thoughts and inner monologues. They are some of the most realized and realistic characters I've read recently, especially Mirabelle. Close runner-ups to the character development are Steve Martin's wit and funny metaphoric asides.
Highly recommended as an extremely quick read!
